PETITION: Pass the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act to ban the barbaric butchering of American horses.
PETITION: Make it illegal to leave a dog left tied "tethered" and unattended in the State of Ohio.
PETITION: Grant wolves federal protection by listing them as threatened in the Endangered Species Act
PETITION: In a typical Spanish bullfight, the bull is given the disadvantage from the very start. They are beaten prior to the ring, their horns are shaved to keep them off balance, and petroleum jelly is rubbed into their eyes to impair their vision.
PETITION: The shark population has been dramatically declining in recent years with many species of sharks getting dangerously close to extinction. The reason why? Over 73 million sharks are killed each year for shark fin soup.
PETITION: Wild animals do not belong in the circus. They do not jump through fiery rings, stand on their heads, or ride bicycles. They do these tricks because they are abused and forced to perform. Many circus animals suffer from lacerations all over their body from trainers using various torture tools such as whips, sticks, electric prods, and bullhooks.
PETITION: A scary trend is picking up on the streets of China, where vendors are selling live turtles and other amphibious animals in an enclosed plastic bag. The animals can only survive a few days until they suffocate or starve to death. In the best case scenario, they're freed from their prisons and end up as pets to people who aren't prepared to care for them
PETITION: Gestation crates are very small metal cages where a mother pig, crated by pig producers, is confined for most of her life. The cages are so small that a mother pig can barely take a step back or forward. They are forced to stand in one place while carrying piglets.
PETITION: In a 2015 press release from The Center for Biological Diversity, data showed that the USDAs Wildlife Services killed over 2.7 million animals during fiscal year 2014, including wolves, coyotes, bears, mountain lions, beavers, foxes, eagles and other animals. They died because agricultural, livestock and other special interests groups determined that they were pests, and their lives were not important.
PETITION: In the last five years, nearly 1,000 racing greyhounds have died and 12,000 have suffered injuries from broken legs, crushed skulls, broken necks, paralysis, seizures, and death by electrocution. As these are just the reported injuries and deaths, the majority of the 80,000 greyhounds born into dog racing can't even be accounted for.
PETITION: More than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises are being slaughtered each year and their meat, containing toxic levels of mercury, is being sold as food in Japan, often times labeled as whale meat.
PETITION: In Thailand, orangutans are being forced in the boxing ring to fight one another for human entertainment. The animals are dressed in boxing gear and placed in a ring to resemble a boxing match with each other. Animal lovers are in awe and appalled at such an exploitation of animals for the amusement of humans.
PETITION: The exploitation and commercial slaughter of the harp seal is one of the most tragic and disturbing tales of our generation. Because of the gruesome and controversial killings, many countries are banning seal pelt.
PETITION: The global population of polar bears is estimated between 20,000 and 22,000 which classifies them as 'threatened.' Although there is a small number of polar bears left, over 1,000 are hunted annually! This prevents the polar bear population from increasing to a healthier number. Canada is the only nation in the world that allows polar bear hunting by non-natives and non-citizens.
PETITION: A factory farm is a large, industrial operation that raises large numbers of animals for food. Over 99% of farm animals in the U.S. are raised in factory farms, which focus on maximizing profits and efficiency at the expense of animal welfare. Daily life in a factory farm is one of pain, frustration and misery- they are often given so little space that they can not even turn around or lie down comfortably. Egg-laying hens are kept in small cages, chickens and pigs are kept in jam-packed sheds, and cows are kept on crowded, filthy feedlots.
PETITION: The Federal Government is considering removing Grizzly Bears off of the Threatened species list even though there is less than 1000 Yellowstone Grizzly Bears left. By removing them from the list, would make them a target for Trophy Hunters.
PETITION: The fur industry continues to grow with demand specifically spiking in China. There are growing concerns about how the heightened popularity will increase the production of fur in the US. More than 50 million animals are violently killed for use in fashion every year. Right now farmed animals, animals taken from the wild then bred on the farm, are kept in rows of small barren wire cages – not unlike those used in puppy mills.
PETITION: ONLY MICHIGAN RESIDENTS SHOULD SIGN THIS PETITION. MICHIGAN VOTERS: Breed discrimination legislation (BDL/BSL) is a law that bans or restricts ownership of certain types of dogs based on their appearance. BDL applies only to owners of dogs of a certain appearance, not to all owners of all dogs.
PETITION: In the past two decades, more than 300 dangerous incidents involving big cats in captivity have resulted in the deaths of 21 people, including 5 children, and close to 250 injuries. In the U.S. there are believed to be more than 10,000 privately owned big cats, including lions, tigers and cougars.
PETITION: Currently a law is being reviewed in the state of Massachusetts to enforce a new Animal Abuse Registry. Much like a Sex Offender Registry, those who have committed abuse will be forced onto the list.
PETITION: 3.5 million Americans are homeless. Five to ten percent of homeless people have dogs and/or cats. In some areas of the country the rate is as high as 24 percent. Every homeless person has a unique story- some have lost their homes and jobs, some have mental disorders, some are addicts, and parolees.
PETITION: Bees are dying in massive numbers due to the pervasive use of neonicotinoid pesticides on our agricultural field crops. Fully a third of our food relies on pollinators-- without bees, our nation’s food supply could be in serious trouble.
PETITION: The British company, Oxitec is planning to release genetically modified mosquitoes into the Florida Keys. The company has had success testing this manipulation with nature in Malaysia, Brazil and the Cayman Islands. This success implies that there was a problem big enough to warrant messing with nature in the first place.
PETITION: Tennessee Walking horse competitions reward the horse that essentially has the highest gait or big lick style. In order to achieve this extremely unnatural state many trainers resort to soring. The methods used for soring horses typically create as much pain as possible for the horse so that it picks its feet up as quickly and high as possible
PETITION: Asian moon bears are being exploited in China. Their populations have plummeted in the last decades, and recent estimates put the worldwide population at just 25,000. It has been estimated that upwards of half their population is currently in captivity, being farmed for their bile, which is used in traditional Chinese medicine.
PETITION: Test - The undersigned list of compassionate people want to see Amazon stop selling cruel leghold Animal Traps. Not only are traps cruel, they are also completely indiscriminate.
PETITION: In an Organized Horse Fight a female horse is tied up in the center of an arena and two male horses are incited to fight each other.
PETITION: Our most treasured public lands and wild places could soon go up for sale. A majority in the U.S. Senate has already voted to allow the sale or giveaway of our federal lands, other than national parks and monuments. National forests, seashores, wildlife refuges, and recreation areas are all at risk of being sold to the highest bidder.
PETITION: Animal testing has become an outdated practice in more than 30 countries. This testing is illegal in the entire European Union, Norway, Israel and India. However, in the U.S. animals are still undergoing painful and often deadly experiments to test cosmetics like lipstick, deodorant and cologne. U.S. Reps. Martha McSally (R-AZ), Don Beyer (D-VA), Joe Heck (R-NV) and Tony Cárdenas (D-CA), have cowritten The Humane Cosmetics Act (H.R. 2858), which will make this testing a thing of the past by prohibiting animal testing for all cosmetic products manufactured or sold in the U.S.
PETITION: Dear Mr. Thabethe, we are writing to ask you to stop canned hunts in your country. Canned hunting is a brutal sport, which doesn't really consist of hunting at all. Lions are kept in an enclosed, fenced off area where hunters track them and gun them down. There is no real opportunity for escape for these poor animals. We are writing because we can't understand why this is still legal? The lion population should be preserved, not left to be killed in tiny enclosures for fun. Canned hunting has no place in our society of ever dwindling resources and species protection. Will you please make this bloody sport illegal once and for all?
PETITION: Most people would think that a website such as YouTube would not allow brutal videos such as dogs fighting for money. However, their policy does nothing to stop this. The video-hosting website features thousands of videos relating to dog fighting, many of which are gruesome and disturbing. These videos can be seen children or anyone who for some sadistic reason wants to watch this kind of activity. There are international organizations fighting to end dog fighting every single day, yet such an influential site allows anyone to post a video showing it. Dog fighting is clearly barbaric and needs to be stopped. Demand that YouTube ban all pro-dog fighting videos.
PETITION: The Annual Possum Drop at Clay's Corner in Brasstown, N.C. was stopped in 2013 and 2014 but was allowed to go on this past New Year's Eve. This event involves lowering a live possum while fireworks and loud noises go off to ring in the New Year. In 2013 and 14 a fake possum was lowered as opposed to a live one. The event is done to mimic the annual ball drop in Times Square. Last year the state's General Assembly passed a law to suspend enforcement of state wildlife rules as they apply to opossums for a few days before and after New Year's Eve. Please sign this petition and let the North Carolina General Assembly know how ridiculous this law is and that the possum drop should not be allowed to go on.
PETITION: Dear Secretary Vilsack - it is rather unnerving that gas chamber euthanasia is still allowed to be used in nearly 30 states. Due to their cruel and inhumane nature we ask that you please stop the use of them nationwide. Lethal injection seems to be a much more humane way of ending these precious animals lives. Which is why 20 states have decided to eradicate the use of the gas chamber. We are asking that you please take an aggressive stance at ending this practice.
PETITION: As temperatures kick up in the summer, it is important to remember how hard this is on our beloved pets. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), hundreds of animals die each year due to vehicular heat stroke. That is, they are left in the car and the car heats up much faster than the owner realized. The majority of these incidents happen by accident due to simple misjudgments. The temperature inside a car heats up much faster than one realizes, even on a 70 degree day the temperature inside of the car can reach 100 degrees in only 20 minutes. Recent "Right to Rescue" laws in Wisconsin, Tennessee, Florida, and Ohio are creating a way for people to intervene and help these animals in need. In the aforementioned states, concerned civilians can now forcefully break into locked vehicles to free trapped dogs (and kids) without facing civil liability. This petition asks that the rest of the country follow these states. Sign the petition below to urge the USDA to give us the right to rescue endangered pets and children.
PETITION: Special interest groups in North Carolina have relentlessly pressured the U.S.F.W.S to abandon their efforts to recover these shy, wild wolves. The scary part is that they are bending to these pressures.
PETITION: About 60 other cities across the U.S. have all decided that it is wrong to sell pets from puppy mills in pet stores. They have all passed laws making it illegal for pet stores to sell any cats or dogs that don't come from a shelter or rescue. This is not good news for those in the puppy mill business. These laws give stray dogs and cats a chance to get adopted and find new homes without breeding and creating new pets for profit.
PETITION: The Food Safety & Standards Regulation of 2011 does not permit dog meat consumption in India. However, even though this ban exists, it is not being enforced. The cruel and inhumane dog meat trade is ubiquitous throughout the Indian state of Nagaland.
PETITION: In some parts of the world, cats and dogs are raised and brutally skinned for their beautiful fur. The Canadian Government is afraid that a ban on and subsequently labeling these furs would endanger international sales of Canadian products made of baby seal skins. Therefore, it allows imported clothing made of dog and cat fur, and refuses to force to have it labeled as such when entering the country. Many people in Canada could be walking around wearing dog and cat fur and not even know it. Tell Canadas Prime Minister to ban imported dog and cat furs.
PETITION: We are writing to ask you to stop the annual Save the Birds Coyote Hunting Tournament. This tournament is killing for killing sake and awards cash prizes for the most coyotes killed, as well as the largest and smallest killed. This contest goes on with basically no rules and no limit on the amount of coyotes that can be killed.
PETITION: Every year in Yellville, Arkansas, the community gathers to celebrate the annual Turkey Trot. The event features the turkey drop where live turkeys are tossed from planes to waiting townspeople. Yes, you read that right. A plane flies up to 500 feet (per FAA guidelines), and drops live Turkeys to awaiting onlookers. According to a story in the Arkansas Gazette. Five turkeys survived this years drop and one died on impact. Those that do survive to land must then contend with a large, bloodthirsty crowd who will fight to capture the frightened animal before slaughtering it.
PETITION: In the upcoming 2016-2017 hunting season, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources has decided to allow the hunting of Bobcats. The Bobcat has been protected in Illinois for the last 40 years, but since their numbers have started to increase the hunting community has become concerned with the deer and game bird population. Bobcats are usually hunted for their pelts and in reality don't pose that much of a threat to the bird and certainly deer population. Most of their diet consists of rabbits and rodents. By dimishing their population you run the risk of creating a higher rodent population. They are a vital part of the ecosysten, they don't attack people and are vital in balancing nature.
PETITION: There has been a unanimous recommendation by scientists that the wolverine have the status of "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). However, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has abandoned their plans to protect this majestic species. There are fewer than 300 of these animals left in the Lower 48. Most of these 300 are in the northern Rockies. With this small of a population, scientists estimate that their reproductive capacity is no more than about 30 annually!! This small populations of wolverines face a mounting list of threats, including habitat loss, low reproductive rates, direct and indirect trapping, and low genetic diversity. Not to mention the impact that climate change is having on their ever decreasing habitat.
